This vacant and historic mid-19th century school has been transformed into 43 cooperative residential housing units for homeless veterans. The new architectural design conserved the original organization of the former school building by creating two residential units in the space occupied by each former classroom. The original stairs, corridors and utility spaces were largely preserved and are fully functioning supporting spaces. A number of the school’s original features including chalkboards, classroom doors, and transoms were preserved in the architectural design.
The renovation included a new accessible building entrance and elevator as well as 3 fully accessible units.
