Location: Southbridge, MA
Adaptive reuse of the former American Optical mill building in Southbridge, MA. This building is the oldest intact part of the American Optical Company historic complex. Originally constructed in 1888 the three story brick and heavy timber mill building will be renovated into a 48-unit apartment building. All the units will be affordable to households earning no more than 60% of the Area Median Income. The proposed project will consist of 12 one-bedroom units; 31 two-bedroom units; and 5 three-bedroom units. A community room, fitness/yoga space and study rooms are planned for the building. Site amenities will include a children’s playscape, a community garden, an outdoor gathering space for the residents and links to walking trails and the town center.
