On Friday, May 17th, 2019, the office afternoon “Staff Design Chat” was run through a presentation given by Mohamed Ibrahim on Sustainability through Construction Waste Management.
The presentation highlighted the optimum use of resources and efficient management of waste as vital principles of sustainable building which significantly reduce the negative impacts of construction on the environment. Construction waste management at UMass Amherst was investigated as an example by case studying 3 construction projects that took place on campus and analyzing their waste management data, thereby estimating the economic and environmental returns attained by recycling construction waste from the studied projects. Conclusions were discussed in purpose of improving the waste management performance of building projects, including governing frameworks, measures, and better practices.
