Former Chicopee Library

Location: Chicopee, MA

Constructed in 1911, the original Chicopee Library, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Massachusetts State Historic Register. In 2003, a new library was constructed at a separate site and the original library was permanently closed in 2004. Now this stately building is being repurposed for use as a multipurpose civic space. In addition to a public or for-rent gathering space, planned uses for the building include trade shows, an indoor area for the current farmer’s market and a potential future space for business incubator/workshare space.

Our design for the space incorporates classical building elements with modern touches through the careful selection and placement of new building materials that compliment the restored historic woodwork and building exterior. Updates to the building include new mechanical, electrical, and fire protection systems as well as accessibility upgrades.
