Greenstead Grove

Location:  Ludlow, MA

Greenstead Grove is a new 43-unit multifamily housing development located in Ludlow, MA. Situated on a long, narrow parcel of land with a compact and unassuming street front entryway, the development is flanked on one side by a well-established neighborhood and, on the other side, by preserved wetlands. This new affordable housing community consists of 7 farmhouse inspired townhome-style buildings made up of 32 two floor apartments and 11 single floor apartments. The unit types include a blend of traditional, accessible, and those for hearing impaired individuals. In addition, there is a new community building housing a property management and leasing office, laundry facilities, accessible restrooms, a shared public gathering room with a kitchenette, a generous exterior deck overlooking the scenic wetlands, and an adjacent soft surface patio with a tot lot playground.

Thoughtfulness of design coordination was applied to provide an energy efficient infrastructure with robust thermal envelope properties so the developer could easily meet the standards of the Energy Star Multi-Family New Construction Program and Massachusetts State Stretch Energy Code requirements. Additionally, because of the early-stage focus on design which incorporates energy saving technologies, the new tenants greatly benefit from a high level of energy independence. The design was also engineered to accommodate rooftop photovoltaic panels to further reduce the reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
