YWCA of Western Massachusetts – Transitional & Congregate Housing

Location: Springfield, MA

In Phase II of the YWCA of Western Massachusetts master plan, a 32,000 square foot two-story building for transitional living was completed. The resulting 21-unit transitional and congregate housing facility achieved certification through the LEED for Homes program. This is especially significant for a residential, non-profit building.

Sustainable features include: energy efficient construction methods, high efficiency HVAC equipment and building/finish materials with highly recycled content. Another feature is a large roof mounted photovoltaic solar array to produce clean electrical power. This highly efficient building will reduce water and energy consumption by 30 to 40 percent over code compliant construction.
